Domestic Violence Project
The City of Carbondale Police Department receives funding from the U.S. Department of Justice Violence Against Women Grants Office to coordinate activities related to improving the criminal justice response to domestic violence offenses. The goal of the project is to enhance victim safety and strengthen offender accountability within the criminal justice system and the community at-large.
Partners on this project are:
- City of Carbondale Police Department
- Jackson County State’s Attorney Office
- Jackson County Probation Office
- Carbondale Women’s Center
- SIUC School of Law - Domestic Violence Clinic
Other agencies participating in project activities include:
- Southern Illinois Regional Social Services
- Illinois State Police
- Office of the Illinois Attorney General
Funded initiatives include:
- Development of policy/protocol for law enforcement/prosecution response to Domestic Violence training for law enforcement.
- Development of victim education materials explaining legal options and the court process.
- Establishment of a Legal Clinic to assist victims with orders of protection.
- Funding of advocate/counselor positions to provide long-term supportive services to victims.
- Consolidation of computer records systems among law enforcement agencies.
