Information Sharing Protocol

The Carbondale Community High School and the City of Carbondale Police Department realize that the effectiveness of both school and police officials is greatly diminished when contact between us is only during times of crisis or conflict. To create a mutually supportive partnership, a formalized, reciprocal system of communication has been adopted, outlining information to be reported by school officials to police and by police to school officials.

Also addressed are procedures regarding interviewing juveniles in school, handling evidence, and conducting investigations, as well as definitions of gang membership, incidents or activity. In conjunction with this program, the Jackson County State’s Attorney Office has committed to effect arrests and prosecute highest provable charges, in accordance with Safe School Zone laws.

If you would like more information regarding this program please call Community Services Sergeant Rich Brunner at (618) 457-3200 ext. 435 or email: rbrunner@ci.carbondale.il.us.
