Carbondale Man Sentenced for Theft

CARBONDALE MAN SENTENCED FOR THEFT

Michael C. Carr, Jackson County State’s Attorney, announced today that a Carbondale man entered a plea of guilty Thursday, September 26, 2013, to Theft and was sentenced to prison.

Robert L. Blair, 45, of Carbondale, IL, who was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with Theft, plead guilty pursuant to a plea agreement and was sentenced to serve 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.  The defendant will serve a one year period of Mandatory Supervised Release upon his release from the Department of Corrections.

On May 21, 2013, the Carbondale Police Department began an investigation when the victim reported that an individual, later identified as the defendant, stole United States Currency from his person.  The victim, who is confined to a wheel chair, indicated that the defendant took $300.00 from him under false pretenses of helping the victim with transportation. 

This investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police Department.  Assistant State’s Attorney Casey Bloodworth was responsible for the prosecution of this case.
