Traffic Crash Investigation

11-18-13 Web Release-Traffic Crash Investigation

On 11-18-13 at 01:58 a.m., the City of Carbondale Police responded to a report of a traffic crash at South University Avenue and West Main Street. Officers learned a vehicle driven by Humberto Barenca was southbound on North University Avenuewhen hestruck a vehicle driving westbound through the intersection of West Main Street causing the vehicle to crash into landscaping and trees at a business before striking the building.Barenca fled the scene, but was later located and arrested for Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Traffic Accident, No Valid Driver’s License, andDisobeying a Traffic Control Device. The driver of the damaged vehicle, along with a passenger in Barenca’s vehicle, were transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Barenca was incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail. The investigation is continuing.
