06-04-14 Web Release –Forgery Forum
In response to an increasing rate of counterfeit money circulating annually, the City of Carbondale Police Department is reaching out to the local business community to help prevent further occurrences of the crime of Forgery. The Police Department will host a Forgery Forum at 6:00 p.m. on 6/18/2014 at the City of Carbondale Police Department, 501 South Washington Street. Business representatives and private citizens interested in this type of crime are invited to attend. The Police Department has investigated numerous Forgery complaints throughout the City this calendar year. The cases have involved hundreds of dollars’ worth of counterfeit currency making its way into cash registers, often leaving businesses short on their sales. At this Forgery Forum, the Department will share information on these recent cases and will share tips on how to spot forged bills at the point of sale. The Police Department will also seek input from attendees on how to limit this problem. News media representatives are also invited to attend.
