Police Report

The City of Carbondale Police Department will soon provide citizens with the ability to report certain crimes online. Currently, the police department processes certain offenses by telephone, through the Tele-Serve Program, which is staffed by a police officer. The objective of this program is to handle those calls for service which do not require the presence of a police officer and to provide more time for problem-solving activities by field officers. The function of Tele-Serve is to investigate and record certain non-emergency, less serious calls for service either by telephone, walk in, or mail. This function offers an additional service to the community. The following is a list of reports which may be reported through the Tele-Serve Officer and soon by our online Crime Reports form:

  • Assault
  • Bicycle Theft
  • Criminal Damage to Property
  • Deceptive Practice
  • Follow-up Reports
  • Forgery
  • Harassment by Telephone
  • Incident/Information Reports
  • Retail Theft
  • Service Station Drive-Off’s
  • Theft Under $300
  • Trespass

In order for any report to be eligible for telephone or online reporting, the following requirements must be met:

  • There is no serious injury or imminent danger of injury.
  • The incident is not in progress.
  • The incident has not just occurred, to the point where response by a police officer would be advantageous.
  • There are no suspects or witnesses to be interviewed.
  • There is no physical evidence available.

Tele-Serve reports are available Monday though Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., or by appointment. Please call the City of Carbondale Police Department at (618) 457-3200, ext. 0, to determine if you would like to determine if your report is eligible to be reported by telephone.
