Ride Along Program

The City of Carbondale Police Department has a long-standing commitment to the development and improvement of positive police-community relations. A positive relationship between the police department and the citizens of our service community is necessary to promote a climate of understanding and support for the delivery of law enforcement services. Any steps that may be taken to better acquaint citizens with the operational procedure of this Department should be viewed as an integral element of our police-community relations commitment.

It is the policy of the Department to encourage citizens to participate in the Ride-Along Program. The Ride-Along Program affords citizens an opportunity to ride with City of Carbondale Police Officer while the officer is engaged in patrol activities. This program puts community members in better touch with what is going on in their respective communities, as well as giving them an idea of how hard their City Police Department is working to keep Carbondale a safe place to live.

We hope you will join us in this very popular program by “riding along” with one of your police officers. Individual participants may take part in this program once a month, and anyone between the ages of 16 and 18 wishing to take part in this program must have signed permission from their parent or guardian.
